The Kentucky CASA Network (KCN) is seeking a highly qualified candidate for its new position of Director of Strategy and Board Relations. The primary role of the position will be to lead, strengthen, support, and develop local Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program boards to create and sustain highly effective local CASA programs.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic and critical thinker and will work closely with existing, new, and developing local program boards of directors to create and ensure a solid infrastructure and governance structure is in place for CASA programs that provide best interest advocacy to abused and neglected children.

The KCN staffing structure is a cross-functional, collaborative model. The Director of Strategy and Board Relations will serve in a leadership position and will manage the KCN’s regional program staff, who provide technical assistance and support to existing and developing programs, and work collaboratively with all KCN staff. The ideal candidate should be a thought leader on nonprofit and board governance.

This position may be located in Louisville, Kentucky or remotely and reports to the State Director. Applicants statewide are encouraged to apply.

About the Kentucky CASA Network

The KCN is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, governed by a board of directors, that provides ongoing development, training, technical assistance, and resources to local CASA programs across Kentucky. The KCN is the recognized state association in the Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) 620.530 and the National CASA/GAL Association for Children.

The KCN has a mission to strengthen and support local CASA programs to build capacity to serve abused and neglected children involved in the court system through no fault of their own. The association advocates for the needs and interests of CASA programs and volunteers with industry stakeholders, state and federal officials, and child welfare decision-makers to advance the CASA mission statewide. The KCN currently supports 23 local CASA programs that served more than 3,700 children throughout the Commonwealth in 2021.

Job Duties

  • Serve as the lead on board governance and capacity building of local program boards; respond to requests and provide technical assistance for information and assistance
  • Plan, facilitate, and lead an annual retreat for board chairs and executive directors
  • Provide technical assistance to local program board chairs on HR, operations, administration, and management
  • Assist boards and programs in transition as the primary contact for board support
  • Develop a local program onboarding module and board orientation toolkit
  • Develop board governance best practices for CASA board trainings for existing and new programs
  • Work with the Director of Quality Assurance to help the local CASA program boards implement their Quality Assurance action plans to ensure compliance with KRS and National CASA/GAL Local Program Standards
  • Serve as the lead with the National CASA/GAL Association for new program membership, specifically assisting new advisory committees and program boards with the creation of foundational and required membership documents
  • Provide technical assistance to program boards on financial sustainability and program growth
  • Work with Family and District Court judges looking to develop and expand CASA services into new counties
  • Provide technical assistance to judges and local planning committees about CASA program formation as it relates to National CASA/GAL Membership and Standards
  • Collaborate with the Director of Training and Impact on statewide trainings involving board governance
  • Collaborate with the Director of Communications to provide content for quarterly board newsletters
  • Collaborate with the Grants Specialist on financial monitoring
  • Ensure that the KCN follows National CASA/GAL State Standards and help to implement the KCN’s action plan to be recognized as a Highly Effective State Organization
  • Assist State Director in strategic planning

Desired Areas of Expertise and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, non-profit management and administration, economics, leadership development, communications, or another related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Substantial management and leadership experience in a business, government, or nonprofit setting
  • Strong oral, written, and presentation skills and experience in training large groups both virtually and in-person
  • Knowledge of the CASA program and the system in which CASA programs navigate is preferred, but not required
  • Experience and understanding of nonprofit financial management and governance
  • Strong leadership and project management skills with the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Personal commitment to high standards, detail-oriented, self-motivated, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work remotely, but as a member of a team, with limited supervision
  • Ability to work a flexible intermittent schedule with some work periods requiring statewide travel. Work will be required after hours and on weekends during heavy work periods.
  • Ability to travel an estimated 30% of the month throughout the Commonwealth with the primary office located in Louisville, Kentucky; however, a statewide remote/virtual office will be considered if the ideal candidate does not reside in Louisville, Kentucky.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $70,000-$75,000.
