Strategies for LGBTQ Youth Inclusion: Family Acceptance, Wellness, and Safety
This training goes into detail regarding the risks and disproportionalities that LGBTQ youth face. The trainer, Ian Siliestrom discusses the protective factors that can mitigate these risks and how intersectionality and implicit bias can contribute to these risks/disproportionalities. Siliestrom examines the importance of parental/family acceptance as a contributing protective factor and how to help empower parents to start or continue to show support their LGBTQ child. The trainer briefly discusses basic terminology of the LGBTQ community and touches on implicit bias and intersectionality before tying it into the topic; it is suggested that a prior generalized knowledge of these terms be understood before completing this training.
